Japanese Government Launches English Language Twitter Account Detailing Earthquake Updates

The Japanese Prime Minister’s Office has launched an English-language Twitter account giving translated updates to the world on the situation quickly unfolding in Japan. Since the earthquake, registering 8.9 on the Richter scale, hit last Saturday, the media has been constantly updating the breaking news as it develops. This account, @JPN_PMO, offers translations from the official disaster Twitter account, @Kantei_Saigai.

Major Linux Milestones Reached

Jailbreakers Go Legit: Cydia Lands Big Advert Deal With Toyota

Unsanctioned, third-party app provider Cydia – sort of the store for those who don’t use iTunes – has landed a brand deal with Toyota.  The advertising deal is the first of its kind, where a major brand goes to a non-conforming provider for marketing.  The ads being run are part of Toyota’s advertising campaign to push its iPhone user interface app for select Toyota cars.

Square Payment Service Gets Apple Push

Internet Advertising Reaches $26 Billion in the US in 2010

Internet AdvertisingThe Internet Advertising Bureau that handles statistics for Internet advertising has released its figures for last year. They show a significant level of growth for online advertising in the US, growing a total of 15% up to $26 billion. Search advertising is still the largest form of advertising online, making up a total of 46% of the whole figure. Display advertisements seen on web pages in the form of banners also contributes significantly to all online advertising, sitting at 38%.

AT&T to Buy T-Mobile: Only Shareholders Will Win

Blackberry Advises Users to Turn Off Javascript

Following the recent Pwn20wn hacking challenge to crack the WebKit browser engine utilised in both Android and Blackberry OS6 powered devices, RIM, the makers of Blackberry handsets, have advised users to disable Javascript to avoid the loophole discovered during the challenge.
